La prof.ssa Gherghetta, docente di Lingua e letteratura inglese nel Liceo, ha vinto il concorso da ricercatrice presso l’Università di Cassino. Così dopo tanti anni di lavoro, il prossimo 3 novembre la prof.ssa Gheghetta lascerà il Liceo: la preside De Camillo ha voluto salutarla di fronte ai ragazzi e ai colleghi, rivolgendole un affettuoso saluto e dichiarando che si tratta di una grande perdita per il Liceo.

L’asteroide (4) Vesta è uno degli asteroidi più grandi che si conoscano (di fatto il secondo in dimensioni, dopo Cerere). Scoperto nel marzo del 1807 da Olbers, ebbe un battesimo “nobile”: il nome fu proposto dal Principe dei Matematici Carl Friedrich Gauss. Il suo diametro è stimato in circa 530 chilometri.

Senza ombra di dubbio, Vesta è uno dei pianetini più interessanti: la sua superficie è particolarmente efficace nel riflettere la radiazione solare, al punto da farne l’asteroide più luminoso, talvolta visibile già ad occhio nudo. La sua superficie presenta regioni più scure, analoghe ai mari lunari. Inoltre, diverse meteoriti rinvenute sulla Terra sembrano essere proprio frammenti di questo importante asteroide.

Dopo una breve introduzione storico-scientifica, Coelum Stream vi porterà sulle tracce di Vesta, grazie alla potente strumentazione del Virtual Telescope. Il corpo minore si troverà a circa 230 milioni di chilometri dalla Terra, apparentemente tra le stelle della Balena, le stesse tra le quali lo stanò Olbers più di due secoli fa. Sarà possibile seguirne il moto e, condizioni meteo permettendo, riconoscerne la rotazione, che si compie in poco più di 5 ore. La diretta è a cura dell’astrofisico Gianluca Masi, dello staff del Virtual Telescope.
